Library Closures from Monday – Urmston will be nearest still open

The information below means that Urmston will be our nearest library for the time being. We’re improving access to electronic resources but it’s unavoidable that our service will be more limited.

In light of the current situation we’ve taken the difficult decision to close some of our libraries across the Borough. However we are working hard to make sure that we still provide you with a first-class library service.

For the time being Altrincham, Coppice, Sale and Urmston libraries will stay open, but due to staff shortages our remaining libraries will be closed from Monday 23 March. In the libraries that remain open, access to public computers will remain, but we will be reducing the number to ensure social distancing.

We are reducing our opening hours to make sure that we always have enough staff on duty, and will now be open until 5pm Monday to Friday and on Saturday from 10am to 1pm. The Open Plus service at Altrincham and Woodsend libraries has also been suspended for the time being.

Even though some of our libraries will be physically closed, we are still open for business online. Don’t forget we have eBooks, eAudio-books, eMagazines and eNewspapers so you can still read-away to your heart’s content. Visit our eLibrary page to find out more.

And remember, we don’t charge fines so don’t worry if you can’t get your books back to us at the moment – plus you can always renew them online. Any books that have been reserved in libraries that are closing will be moved to open branches, so you can still come and collect them.

We have automatically renewed all library cards that were due to expire in the next 3 months.
